Preparing Your RV for Spring Training Season in Phoenix
As spring arrives, baseball fans flock to Phoenix to catch the excitement of MLB Spring Training. The city is home to multiple Cactus League stadiums, making it a popular destination for RV travelers who enjoy the convenience and flexibility of staying near the action. While it’s the perfect time for RV enthusiasts to plan their trips, there are specific considerations to keep in mind to protect your vehicle and enhance your stay. This guide covers protecting your RV roof, the best RV campgrounds near spring training facilities, and maintenance tips for frequent travelers to Phoenix. Preparing Your RV for Spring Training Season in Phoenix doesn’t have to be a challenge when you follow these tips:
Protecting Your RV Roof from Potential Baseball Impacts
Staying near spring training facilities means your RV could be exposed to the occasional stray baseball. With enthusiastic fans and practice sessions happening nearby, your RV roof is at risk for accidental hits. Here are some key steps to safeguard your RV:
-
Install a Durable Roof Coating
- Consider applying FlexArmor, a seamless RV roof coating known for its impact resistance and durability. FlexArmor creates a thick protective layer over your roof, safeguarding it against unexpected hits from baseballs or other objects.
-
Use a Roof Cover or Netting
- If you plan to stay at an RV park close to a stadium, it’s wise to invest in an RV roof cover or protective netting. These covers can act as an extra barrier, minimizing the potential for dents or damage.
-
Park Strategically
- Choose a parking spot that’s further away from practice fields or areas with heavy foot traffic. While this might mean a bit more walking, it significantly reduces the risk of roof damage.

Maintenance Tips for RVs Traveling Frequently to Phoenix for Baseball Season
If you’re traveling regularly to Phoenix for spring training, it’s essential to keep your RV in top shape to handle the desert conditions and frequent use. Here are some maintenance tips to help you prepare:
-
Inspect and Repair Your Roof Regularly
- Desert conditions can lead to cracks and deterioration in your RV roof, especially with prolonged sun exposure. Schedule regular roof inspections to identify any wear and address small cracks before they expand into larger issues. Applying a protective roof coating like FlexArmor can help you stay worry-free throughout the season.
-
Check and Seal All Openings
- Traveling frequently in desert environments increases the chances of seals and caulking deteriorating. Inspect all roof vents, skylights, and openings for gaps, and re-seal them to prevent leaks and dust intrusion.
-
Clean and Protect Your RV Roof
- Dust and debris from the desert can settle on your roof and cause damage over time. Regular cleaning can help you prevent buildup and maintain a well-protected roof. Using UV-protective treatments will add an extra layer of defense against sun damage.
-
Monitor Your Air Conditioning System
- Phoenix’s warm temperatures during spring training can be taxing on your RV’s AC system. Ensure that your roof-mounted air conditioning unit is functioning efficiently and clean the filters regularly. It’s worth considering a reflective roof coating, like FlexArmor to keep the interior cooler and reduce AC strain.

Our Phoenix RV Roof Repairs Come Highly Recommended!
And the roof? Well... It looks great! I don't know why this isn't the industry standard.
Late December, that beautiful AlexArmor Roof SAVED our rig!!! We ran under an archway which would have peeled us open life a sardine can had it not been for that roof! The bathroom skylight and the MaxxAir fan were destroyed but the roof held!
In Jan 2023 we had the repair work done at AZ RV Roof in Prescott, AZ by Shawn and his crew! We could not be happier! They cut out the damaged areas, replaced the skylight and fan and resprayed the roof.
We highly recommend getting a FlexArmor Roof for the peace of mind and extra protection for your home on the road!!
The staff provided excellent customer service. The guys made some custom changes to our roof configuration (reduced the size of our bathroom skylight).
They kept us well informed during the process. We highly recommend this product and AZ RV Roof for your camper roof needs. Thanks John and crew!!
We had just finished building a new home and dealing with all the Covid related and supply chain related excuses for poor service and execution and were burned out! When we got in our truck after picking up our completed coach I looked at my wife and said, "wasn't that a breath of fresh air"! Do business with AZ RV Roof. Thier product is industry leading and thier customer service is unparalleled!
Job was done on time. Technicians know their job well.
We drove our 5th wheel from So. California to Prescott, AZ to have our flex armor -lifetime transferable guarantee- roof installed for nearly half the price of a rubber roof that carried only a 90 day warranty. John was extremely accommodating in fitting us in the schedule when we were delayed because of some COVID backups on other work we were having done to our rig. To top it off, our 6 year old original roof was so bad that they had to take an extra day to make all the necessary repairs - after squeezing us in! We highly recommend AZ RV Roof and the peace of mind they provide in not having to worry about our roof anymore. No more lap sealant checks!
Frequently Asked Phoenix RV Roof Repair Questions
What is the maintenance to an FlexArmor roof?
The only maintenance to this roof system is the topcoat. It is a polymer coating developed for our system and will last 10-15 years. If you see the grey roofing material coming through it is time for a new white topcoat. This is a product that can be applied by you or you can bring it back to a location for reapplication.
You do not have to caulk your roof or apply special cleaners or conditioners on the FlexArmor roof system.
How do I clean a FlexArmor roof?
You can use any kind of household cleaner you want. This roof system has an extremely high chemical resistance and is not effected by cleaners or bleach. It is designed to be self cleaning which means most everyday dust and dirt washes off when it rains. It is non porous so it resists many stains and mildew.
Do I need to caulk around my fixtures?
This roof system was designed to remove all the caulking joints and seams in an rv roof. You no longer have any exposed screws or joints to caulk. Our chemical bond removes the need for caulking.
